Support for strategic sectors and niches of excellence

Gatineau, Quebec -  May 7, 2018 – The Government of Quebec and the Government of Canada have granted a total of $180,993 in financial assistance to the Conseil régional de l’environnement et du développement durable de l’Outaouais (CREDDO) [Outaouais regional council on the environment and sustainable development] for a sustainable development project evaluated at $562,883.

Maryse Gaudreault, Member for Hull, acting on behalf of Stéphane Billette, Minister for Small and Medium Enterprises, Regulatory Streamlining and Regional Economic Development, and Greg Fergus, Member of Parliament for Hull-Aylmer, acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED), made the announcement today.

The ministère de l’Économie, de la Science et de l’Innovation (MESI) has awarded $41,100 through the Programme d’appui au développement des secteurs stratégiques et des créneaux d’excellence (PADS) [program to support the development of strategic sectors and niches of excellence] for the Synergie Outaouais industrial ecology project. That contribution is in addition to $29,893 previously granted by the MESI for phase one of this project, which consisted in setting up a regional round table on the concept of industrial ecology. CED has awarded a repayable contribution of $110,000 through the Quebec Economic Development Program. This amount will help the organization hire professional resources who will provide technical and scientific support for businesses that are part of the new exchange network on residual materials.

The Synergie Outaouais project fosters linkages among participating businesses to facilitate the exchange of residual materials, water, energy and other resources, and share a number of activities. The project is also helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Outaouais.

It should be remembered that RECYC-QUÉBEC is contributing up to $180,000 to support CREDDO’s initiatives and the creation of industrial symbioses in the region. This funding is from the call for proposal regarding the transition to the circular economy, which is managed by RECYC-QUÉBEC and financed through the Green Fund.
