Communities need to build on innovation to strategically diversify and develop lasting regional competitive advantages. Supporting community transition and diversification is therefore a Government of Canada priority.

Rémi Massé, Member of Parliament for Avignon–La Mitis–Matane–Matapédia, acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, announced that Les Cuisines Gaspésiennes, manufacturer of Gaspésien products, and the Fonds d'innovation et de développement économique local de La Matanie (FIDEL), have been awarded a total of $1.4 million in financial assistance.

Les Cuisines Gaspésiennes will be able to enhance its production capacity through the automation and increased computerization of its production operations thanks to a $1.2 million repayable contribution. The funding will help the company acquire equipment for its line of sliced, vacuum-packed products, a robot palletizer and a boxing station. It will also be able to buy computer hardware.

FIDEL de La Matanie is receiving a $200,000 non-repayable contribution to conduct a feasibility study for the implementation of a gas pipeline network in Matane’s industrial park.

Both contributions were awarded through CED’s Quebec Economic Development Program.
