News release

Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions supports the organization with a contribution of $300,000

August 19, 2018 – Montreal, Quebec Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

The Government of Canada’s New Tourism Vision targets the growth of a world-class tourism industry by building on Canada’s diverse, welcoming culture. Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED) is therefore proud to support the festival put on by Montréal Pride, a non-profit organization, by providing a non-repayable financial contribution of $300,000.

The funding, granted under the Quebec Economic Development Program, aims to boost the international promotion of the festival in 2018, 2019 and 2020. This support will allow the organization to conduct marketing events abroad, including the promotion of the festival at LGTBQ2 events; communication activities targeting foreign markets, such as social media campaigns; and economic benefit studies.

Quotes

“The tourism industry generates major economic impacts that benefit all Canadians by creating rewarding, high-quality jobs for the middle class. By supporting the promotion of Montréal Pride internationally and by giving the festival the means to offer breathtaking activities and programming, the Government of Canada not only encourages festivalgoers from around the world to visit Montreal, Québec and Canada, but also contributes to promoting our shared values of diversity, equality and openness.”

The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie

“I am proud that the Government of Canada is supporting Montréal Pride. This contribution will help bolster the positive image of Montreal and Canada, and is in line with our government’s commitment to promote equality for the LGBTQ2 community, protect the rights of its members and address discrimination against them. Events such as the Montréal Pride festival reflect the Government of Canada’s goal of making our country a positive, inclusive and safe destination for everyone.”
