The Government of Canada awards over $160,000 in financial assistance for 2019 to 2021

June 27, 2019 – Tadoussac, QuebecCanada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

Today marks the start of the 36th Festival de la Chanson de Tadoussac (FCT). Often referred to as the largest of the small festivals, it attracts over 4,000 tourists annually and generates about $1 million in economic benefits for the small municipality of Tadoussac. To continue positioning itself on markets outside Quebec, it will receive a non-repayable contribution of $163,520 from Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions. With this financial assistance, the organization will be able to roll out its strategy to promote the festival to European and American tourists.

The funding was announced today by Rémi Massé, Member of Parliament for Avignon–La Mitis–Matane–Matapédia and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, who used his tour of the Côte-Nord region as an opportunity to attend the FCT’s opening cocktail reception.

More specifically, the Government of Canada’s support will help the FCT team organize promotional events and exploratory missions for journalists and decision-makers, place advertisements, and develop promotional tools, mobile applications and electronic marketing.

The Festival de la Chanson de Tadoussac is a non-profit organization established in 1993. Its mission is to promote the dissemination of the performing arts in the region by providing a forum of choice and professional guidance for young up-and-coming singers, while fostering the influence of French-language music throughout the world. Its programming extends over four days in the community of Tadoussac and serves to kick off the tourism season. This year, nearly 40 artists from Europe, Quebec and the other provinces will perform on one of the 14 stages set up throughout the Côte-Nord village until June 30, 2019.

Tourism provides an excellent opportunity for economic diversification at the national and regional levels. The Government of Canada’s investment in cultural and sporting events is an effective way to support actions that generate significant economic and media benefits in the regions where these events are held.
