FedDev Ontario Announces Support for Innovative Manufacturers in Guelph and New Hamburg

The Government of Canada is committed to helping manufacturers become more innovative, competitive and successful. To this end, it is providing up to $6.6 million, through FedDev Ontario's Investing in Business Growth and Productivity (IBGP) initiative, to two manufacturers located in Guelph and New Hamburg, to support productivity improvements, job creation and exports to global markets.

Hammond Manufacturing Company Limited Established in 1917 and headquartered in Guelph, Ontario, the Hammond Manufacturing Company manufactures electrical products and enclosures including power bars. The company also operates in Waterloo, Aberfoyle and Buffalo, New York and has sales and distribution centres in export markets including the U.S., U.K. and Australia.

Funding will support the purchase and installation of new advanced equipment, including an environmentally-friendly paint line; process improvements; and facility modifications at the company's new and existing facilities in Guelph.

Ontario Drive & Gear Limited Founded in 1962 in New Hamburg, Ontario, Ontario Drive & Gear designs, tests and manufactures quality gears, transmissions and vehicles. It is a key supplier for automotive, industrial and defence industries.

Funding will support the acquisition of state-of-the-art equipment and the expansion of its engineering department and new Gear Division product lines.

Investing in Business Growth and Productivity Initiative

The Investing in Business Growth and Productivity initiative is aimed at helping established businesses to expand their operations, invest in productivity improvements and compete globally.

Funding is available to:

  • Grow established businesses through facility expansion or improvements;
  • Increase business adoption of new technologies and processes to improve productivity; and
  • Increase business capacity to participate in global markets, diversify markets and integrate in global value chains.
