FedDev Ontario supports leading-edge system to benefit construction industry
$920,500-contribution for rural advanced manufacturer to expand facility, scale up and create 15 jobs
May 15, 2019 – Brant, Ontario
Today, the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for FedDev Ontario, announced a FedDev Ontario contribution of $920,500 for iSpan Systems LP, a manufacturer of light steel frame building systems for the construction industry, to scale up production of its easy-to-install steel floor joist system—TotalJoist™.
Made from 90 percent recycled steel sourced within Canada, TotalJoist™ is an environmentally-friendly framing solution that allows clients to increase design options by allowing for longer spans that create larger and more adaptable rooms. This system creates efficiencies in cost, time and installation for building contractors, and contributes to a cleaner, safer and more sustainable environment.
FedDev Ontario's contribution will allow iSpan Systems LP to expand its manufacturing facility by 13,000 square feet and acquire advanced manufacturing equipment to automate and streamline its production of TotalJoist™. This project will position the company to grow and become more competitive in new and existing global markets, and will create up to 15 new skilled jobs in the County of Brant.
“Today’s investment means iSpan Systems can deliver an efficient and effective solution to the construction industry in Canada and abroad, while adopting the green practice of using recycled steel. I am pleased that this expansion project will strengthen local supply chain spending and bring 15 new jobs to the County of Brant’s vibrant rural community.”
