Government of Canada provides a plan to support Fairness for Every Generation

April 22, 2024 – Hamilton, Ontario

Canada’s future depends on the success of its youngest generations. Budget 2024 is a plan to build a Canada that works better for everyone, where younger generations can get ahead, where their hard work pays off, and where they can buy a home—where everyone has a fair chance at a good middle-class life.

Today, the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), along with the Honourable Marci Ien, Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth; Lisa Hepfner, Member of Parliament for Hamilton Mountain; and Chad Collins, Member of Parliament for Hamilton East–Stoney Creek, visited Innovation Factory at McMaster Innovation Park to highlight Budget 2024’s investments in youth entrepreneurship.

While in Hamilton, Minister Tassi, Minister Ien, MP Hepfner and MP Collins met with young local business owners and youth leaders to learn more about the important work being done by young talent in the community and across a variety of sectors. The Ministers also highlighted the Government of Canada’s plan to increase investment, enhance productivity, and encourage innovation. It will create good-paying and meaningful jobs, keep Canada at the economic forefront, and deliver new support to empower more of our best entrepreneurs and innovators.

This includes $5 billion in programs that will provide younger generations with good-paying jobs and new opportunities. For example, Budget 2024 proposes $60 million over five years for Futurpreneur Canada to enable an estimated 6,250 additional youth-owned businesses to launch and scale-up their businesses by 2029.

The Government of Canada understands that making the promise of Canada real for younger Canadians requires action. This includes empowering our entrepreneurs to put their ideas to work and create good-paying and meaningful jobs.
