Implementation of species changes: 17th Conference of the Parties

The 17th Conference of the Parties (CoP17) to Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) was held in Johannesburg, South Africa, from September 24, 2016 to October 5, 2016. At CoP17, Canada and the other Parties adopted amendments to the lists of species protected under CITES. The amendments to Appendices I and II of CITES entered into force for all Parties on January 2nd, 2017, 90 days after the meeting of the CoP.

To ensure continued trading by Canadian exporters and importers, Canada issues the required CITES authorizations for all species which are currently listed in the CITES Appendices.  Please direct any questions you may have to the Canadian CITES Management Authority at ECCC:
