Methodology

Comment Summary 3: A stakeholder asked why it was proposed that the substances in the Selected C3-C5 Alcohols Group do not meet the criteria under paragraph 64(c) of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA), given the analogue used for isobutanol, 1-butanol, was proposed to meet the criteria under paragraph 64(c) of CEPA in the Alcohols draft screening assessment.

Response 3: Additional information about 1-butanol submitted was considered and the assessment was revised to characterize risk for isobutanol based on the oral developmental toxicity endpoint for the analogue 1-butanol, as proposed in the United States Environmental Protection Agency (2011) toxicological review and as per the Alcohols Group draft screening assessment. The changes are seen in section 6. It remains that isobutanol does not meet the criteria under paragraph 64(c) of CEPA in the assessment.
