Water quantity monitoring
Environment Canada is the federal agency responsible for the collection, interpretation, and dissemination of standardized water quantity data and information in Canada. EC has maintained the National Hydrometric Program through cost-shared agreements with the provinces and territories since the mid-1970s. Established in 1908, EC's Water Survey of Canada is the designated branch responsible for water resource monitoring in support of interjurisdictional agreements and treaties.
