Water sources: estuaries

The tidal areas where saltwater and fresh water meet are called estuaries. These productive ecosystems, found on Canada's coasts, contain unique assemblages of organisms, including starfish and sea anemones.

Environment Canada and its partners are actively trying to ensure the conservation of salt marshes in Atlantic Canada through Salt Marsh Conservation and Restoration activities.
