Government of Canada Investment Supports Jobs and Growth for the Temagami First Nation

July 9, 2016 – Temagami First Nation, ON – Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario – FedNor
Anthony Rota, Member of Parliament for Nipissing–Timiskaming, on behalf of Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor, today announced an investment of $31,500 to support community economic development and youth employment in the Temagami First Nation.
The FedNor investment will enable Temagami First Nation to hire a youth intern for a one-year period to help maximize the economic potential of land development opportunities in the community, including resource development projects and the protection of traditional harvesting areas. Working as a Geographic Information System (GIS) Officer for the community’s Lands and Resources Department, the intern will gain valuable work experience performing tasks such as developing a GIS operational manual, and creating maps for land use, cultural and heritage purposes. The successful candidate will also assist with the N’Daki Menan Mapping Project, as part of a traditional knowledge study.
