Government of Canada Invests $1.2 Million to Boost the Economy and Support Important Community Infrastructure in the Central Manitoulin Region

November 8, 2016 – Gore Bay, ON – Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario – FedNor

The Government of Canada today announced an investment of $1,222,490 in support of four projects in the Gore Bay and surrounding area. Provided through FedNor's Community Futures and Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Programs, this funding will support business development and economic growth, as well as tourism and community infrastructure projects.

Organizations that will benefit from this announcement include LaCloche Manitoulin Business Assistance Corporation (LAMBAC), Sheshegwaning First Nation, Friends of Misery Bay and the Corporation of the Municipality of Central Manitoulin.

Paul Lefebvre, Member of Parliament for Sudbury, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor, made the announcement today while on a tour of Manitoulin Island.

  • The Community Futures Program, delivered by FedNor in Northern Ontario, supports projects that promote sustainable community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation.
  • The Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150) funding is designed to leave a lasting legacy by supporting the rehabilitation or improvement of existing community infrastructure assets and facilities across the country that promote community and cultural benefits for the public. FedNor is delivering this program in Northern Ontario with an allocation of $10.4 million over two years, ending March 31st, 2018.
