FedNor Invests More Than $130,000 to Improve Community Infrastructure in the Greater Sudbury Region

January 18, 2017 – Lively, ON – Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario – FedNor

The Government of Canada is investing $131,820 to transform two key community assets into fully accessible facilities. FedNor funding of $95,000 will enable the Wild At Heart Refuge Centre to reconfigure its main entrance for wheelchair access, complete landscaping and exterior enhancements to the parking area, as well as install audio and visual equipment required to live stream educational and eco-tourism programming to audiences worldwide. In addition, the Canadian National Institute for the Blind will receive $36,820 to complete accessibility enhancements to its Sudbury's York Street facility, such as installing new automatic doors, flooring, exit signs and a fire panel.

Paul Lefebvre, Member of Parliament for Sudbury, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor, made this announcement today in Lively at the Wild At Heart Refuge Centre. The FedNor funding was provided through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, which is part of the Government of Canada's coordinated approach to mark the 150th anniversary of Confederation.
