Government of Canada Invests More Than $1 million in Support of Waterfront Development and Increased Tourism in Sioux Lookout

April 18, 2017 – Sioux Lookout, ON – Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario - FedNor

The Government of Canada is investing $1,035,863 to enable the Municipality of Sioux Lookout to enhance business growth and development, and increase tourism in the region. Of the total, $1 million will support infrastructure development at the Farlinger Park/Town Beach, while the remaining $35,863 will assist with the construction of a playground and a pavilion structure at the Sioux Lookout Tourist Information Centre.

The Honourable Bob Nault, Member of Parliament for Kenora, made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor. These priority infrastructure initiatives will enable business expansion, job creation and increased tourism through the revitalization of key municipal assets.

  • The Farlinger Park/Town Beach initiative is funded through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program which supports projects that promote sustainable community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.

  • The playground and pavilion project at the Sioux Lookout Tourist Information Centre is supported through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150) which is part of the Government of Canada’s coordinated approach to mark the anniversary of Confederation.

  • CIP 150 is designed to leave a lasting legacy in communities across the country by supporting improvements to community infrastructure that provide community and cultural benefits for the public. FedNor is delivering CIP 150 in Northern Ontario with an allocation of $10.4 million over two years, ending March 31, 2018.
