Sault Ste. Marie solar panel manufacturer benefits from productivity improvements

Funding helps local green-technology manufacturer to become more competitive, grow and create good middle-class jobs
August 2, 2017 – Sault Ste. Marie, ON – Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario - FedNor
Solar panel manufacturer Heliene Inc. is on track to become more productive and competitive, and grow its business thanks to a Government of Canada repayable contribution of more than $199,000.
The funding was announced today by Terry Sheehan, Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor.
Specifically, this funding enabled the company to purchase and install a fully automated soldering machine, as well as provide related staff training. The upgrade will help maintain the jobs of more than 70 people who produce products for solar project developers, engineering and construction companies, and commercial utility customers.
This investment highlights the Government of Canada’s commitment to support clean technology, a key component of Canada's approach to promoting sustainable economic growth and transforming into a low-carbon, globally competitive economy.

On June 19, 2017, Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) announced an investment of $1.45 million in Heliene Inc. to conduct research and development of smart-grid technologies. This project will assist the the company expand its product offerings, grow and create jobs.
