Government of Canada invests $535,000 to promote growth of Northern Ontario’s mining sector
September 14, 2017 – Temiskaming Shores, ON – Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario - FedNor
Northern Ontario businesses will be well positioned to grow their operations, create middle-class jobs and capitalize on new opportunities as a result of a Government of Canada investment of $535,000.
The funding was announced today by Anthony Rota, Member of Parliament for Nipissing-Timiskaming, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for FedNor.
This FedNor investment will help up to 100 Northern Ontario businesses and organizations to promote their products, services and brands during one of the largest mining conventions in the world. Specifically, the funding will be used by the City of Temiskaming Shores and its partners to establish the Northern Ontario Mining Showcase, the single largest pavilion at the 2018 Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) International Convention.

In 2017, the Northern Ontario Showcase featured more than 92 businesses and organizations from across the region, which resulted in increased sales and exports for participating firms worth more than $8.5 million.

The funding announced today is provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, which supports projects that promote sustainable community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.

Taking place in Toronto, March 4–7, 2018, PDAC’s International Convention is one of the world’s leading convention and trade show for companies and organizations connected with mining and mineral exploration. Each year, the event brings together approximately 1,000 exhibitors and over 24,000 representatives from 130 countries.
