News release

Government of Canada invests in local projects to boost tourism and support entrepreneurs

August 14, 2019 – Temiskaming Shores, ON – Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario - FedNor

Tourism is an inclusive sector that showcases Canada’s culture, diversity, natural beauty and unique experiences to the world. It delivers economic benefits across the country by supporting one in ten jobs. That’s why the Government of Canada is investing in our tourism sector’s businesses and assets.

Today, Anthony Rota, Member of Parliament for Nipissing-Timiskaming, on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie, announced funding of $237,800 in support of three initiatives by the City of Temiskaming Shores, the Temiskaming Art Gallery and the Municipality of Temagami. All three initiatives are geared to attracting more visitors and increasing tourism spending, as well as supporting business growth and development. Thanks to the Government of Canada’s support for projects such as these, Canadians and visitors to Canada will be able to explore world-class tourism experiences such as the Lake Temiskaming Tour and the Temagami Canoe Festival, and witness exceptional artists and their many works at the Temiskaming Art Gallery.

These investments are being made through the Canadian Experiences Fund (CEF), which supports Canadian businesses and organizations seeking to create, improve or enhance tourism products, facilities and experiences. FedNor is delivering CEF in Northern Ontario.
