Government of Canada and Shell Canada to make announcements relating to marine conservation
Media advisory
Vancouver, BC – The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, on behalf of the Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, will announce the designation of a new marine National Wildlife Area, the first protected marine area established under the Canada Wildlife Act. A second announcement will be made by Shell Canada regarding a significant contribution the company is making to marine conservation off coastal British Columbia.
The designation of a new National Wildlife Area reinforces the Government’s commitment to protect Canada’s marine habitats and coastal areas.
Shell has a long history of voluntary conservation in Canada and supports the Government’s commitment to conserve 10 percent of our country’s coastal and marine areas by 2020. Michael Crothers, Shell Canada President and Country Chair, will be present to give remarks and answer questions.
Media are invited to attend.
