Minister Wilkinson to visit New Brunswick

Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, will be visiting New Brunswick on Saturday, January 19, 2019, to meet with provincial counterparts, local stakeholders on common priorities, including oceans protection, Atlantic salmon conservation, Indigenous reconciliation and commercial fisheries. Atlantic salmon is a species of social, cultural and ceremonial importance throughout Atlantic Canada and the Miramichi is home to the most important salmon river in the Maritimes.
This is Minister Wilkinson’s second visit to New Brunswick. He is pleased to be meeting with, among others, Matt DeCourcey, Member of Parliament for Fredericton; the Honourable Ross Wetmore, New Brunswick Minister of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries; Chief George Ginnish, Chief Executive Officer of the North Shore District MicMac Council-Anqotum Resource Management.
In addition, Minister Wilkinson, along with Pat Finnigan, Member of Parliament for Miramichi –Grand Lake, will make an announcement about an investment in coastal restoration for the eastern shore of New Brunswick under the Oceans Protection Plan, in Eel Ground.
