Conception Bay South, Newfoundland and Labrador — Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson and Member of Parliament for Avalon Ken McDonald met today with the crew of Coast Guard Atlantic Region’s Inshore Rescue Boat (IRB) Station in Conception Bay South, NL. After donning safety equipment, Minister Wilkinson and MP McDonald embarked on a fast rescue craft to witness the capable crew’s demonstration of search and rescue manoeuvres.

Minister Wilkinson was pleased to have the chance to catch up with returning Coxswain, University of Ottawa student Morgan McKerlie, who worked at the IRB Station during the Minister’s previous visit in 2017. As one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People, Minister Wilkinson heard how the crew’s experience with the IRB Service is providing valuable real-life experiences as part of Canada’s search and rescue system.
