St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador - While in Newfoundland and Labrador the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson along with Ken McDonald the Member of Parliament for Avalon, met with representatives of the Harbour Authority at the Foxtrap Small Craft Harbours site located in Conception Bay South. Harbour Authority representatives welcomed the Minister and Member of Parliament with a tour of the site to observe the construction activities of a new marginal wharf and concrete launch way.

The Government of Canada is replacing a marginal wharf and slipway with a new marginal wharf and concrete launch way. A $2.9 million contract has been awarded to R J G Construction Ltd. The work is well underway and is expected to be completed by December 2019. This project was part of an investment of more than $12 million over two years in small craft harbour improvements and transfer projects on the Avalon peninsula made by Minister Wilkinson and Ken McDonald, Member of Parliament for Avalon.

Since 2016, The Government of Canada has invested almost $160 million in Small Craft Harbours in Newfoundland and Labrador. Coastal communities across Canada are supported by small craft harbours that provide the commercial fishing industry with safe and accessible facilities. With approximately 45,000 Canadians employed in this sector, the Government of Canada is making investments to renew its network of small craft harbours and work with municipalities and other stakeholders where investments and divestitures can enhance local communities.
