Biography: Foreign Influence Transparency Commissioner

Anton Boegman was appointed to a seven-year term as Canada's first Foreign Influence Transparency Commissioner by resolutions of the House of Commons and Senate. He assumed his role on August 4, 2026.

From May 2018 until November 2025, Anton served as Chief Electoral Officer of British Columbia, having previously served as Deputy Chief Electoral Officer since 2010, and in other senior roles with that office since 2004. Anton was recognized as a leader in electoral administration, and a respected voice in the national and international election management dialogue, particularly in the areas of accessibility to voting rights, understanding and mitigating the impact of disinformation and foreign interference in democracy, and in innovation of services and practices. He has presented and shared best practices at numerous national and international conferences, and in 2023 was an invited participant in the OECD's Trusted Dialogue in Getting Influence Right. In 2024, Anton established the first provincial-level Electoral Integrity Working Group, bringing together federal and provincial partners to address modern risks to electoral processes.

During his professional career, he has sat on a number of boards. He served terms as Treasurer and Board Member for the Council on Government Ethics Laws (COGEL), and as Steering Committee Co-Chair for the Canadian Secretariat on Electoral Cooperation (SEC). His community involvement included serving terms as President and as Treasurer for the Oak Bay Parent-Owned Preschool Society, and coaching youth soccer for 12 years with Bays United, where he was awarded the Clarke Fair Play Award by B.C. Soccer in 2014.

Anton is a graduate of the Royal Military College of Canada, with a BA (Political Science), and served for seven years as a naval officer in the Royal Canadian Navy. He has an MBA from Athabasca University and in an accredited Project Management Professional. He was honoured by the award of the King Charles Coronation Medal for outstanding services to British Columbians in 2024.
