Minister Dion to address University of Ottawa conference

The Honourable Stéphane Dion, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, he will address the opening plenary at the University of Ottawa’s international conference: “Canada in Global Affairs: New challenges, New approaches.” The university is hosting the conference in partnership with The Hague Institute for Global Justice and the International Commission of Jurists, Canada.
The keynote address, entitled A Guiding Principle for Canada in the World: Responsible Conviction, builds on a series of announcements by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau signalling a shift to engage the world more effectively at every level, bilaterally and multilaterally.
With this in mind, Minister Dion will outline how Canada’s new approach to engagement will advance Canada’s security and economic interests while contributing to a more peaceful and prosperous world. The minister’s address will also showcase how Canada will be more effective on the international scene—a determined peacebuilder, a less dogmatic and more responsible decision maker and an international player that sustains its bilateral engagement and does not hesitate to voice its opinion and perspectives to the international community.
