Canada to help chart course for change at World Humanitarian Summit in Turkey

The Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, today announced that she will travel to Istanbul, Turkey, to attend the World Humanitarian Summit on May 23 and 24, 2016.
The summit is a unique opportunity for hundreds of humanitarian partners and governments to work together on innovative solutions to help the 125 million people in urgent need of assistance. Global and local leaders from government, business and civil society will announce commitments to improve humanitarian action.
During her engagements, Minister Bibeau will focus on issues such as women’s empowerment, child protection and the importance of international actors working more effectively with local partners for better impact. She will also participate in events related to promoting gender equality, financing humanitarian assistance and providing education in crisis situations.
Through Minister Bibeau’s participation at the summit, Canada will champion humanitarian principles and respect for international humanitarian law.
