Canada to host 2017 Asia-Pacific business meeting

Following today’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings in Peru, the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of International Trade, announced Canada will host a 2017 APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) meeting. ABAC brings together business and political leaders in the Asia-Pacific region, who are focused on increasing trade and economic cooperation.

The Minister today participated in the APEC Ministers Responsible for Trade Meeting, where she reiterated Canada’s support for progressive trade and investment ties with the Asia-Pacific region. She also held bilateral meetings with her counterparts from Chile, Mexico, New Zealand and the United States.

While in Peru, the Minister also co-chaired the first ministerial meeting of the Canada-Peru Free Trade Agreement Joint Commission since the agreement entered into force. Bilateral partnerships with countries such as Peru are vital to the government’s efforts to increase trade and create high-quality jobs.
