Canada appalled by terrorist attack in Nice, France

Statement

July 14, 2016 – Ottawa, Ontario - Global Affairs Canada

The Honourable Stéphane Dion, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today released the following statement regarding reports that a truck struck a crowd celebrating Bastille Day in Nice, France.

“We condemn this horrific terrorist attack, and we offer our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those killed and a speedy recovery to those injured. Canadians are deeply saddened by this tragedy and we stand in solidarity with the people of France on their national day.

“The Consulate of Canada in Nice is in communication with local authorities and the Emergency Watch and Response Centre is active and assisting Canadians.

"Canadian citizens in France requiring emergency consular assistance should contact the Embassy of Canada or call Global Affairs Canada's 24/7 Emergency Watch and Response Centre collect at +1 613 996-8885. An email can also be sent to sos@international.gc.ca.

"Friends and relatives in Canada of Canadian citizens known to be in the area can contact Global Affairs Canada's 24/7 Emergency Watch and Response Centre by calling 613-996-8885 or 1-800-387-3124, or by sending an email to sos@international.gc.ca."
