Diplomatic Appointments

The Honourable Stéphane Dion, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced the following diplomatic appointments.

The Government of Canada is steadfast in selecting diplomatic leaders who are experienced public servants and who reflect a wide diversity of Canadians as well as the government’s commitment to greater gender parity.

Heather Grant becomes Ambassador to the Kingdom of Sweden. Ms. Grant replaces Kenneth Macartney.

John Holmes becomes Ambassador to the Republic of the Philippines. Mr. Holmes replaces Neil Reeder.

Sara Hradecky becomes High Commissioner to the Republic of Kenya and Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Human Settlements Programme and to the United Nations Environment Programme. Ms. Hradecky replaces David Angell.

Karen MacArthur becomes Ambassador to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. Ms. MacArthur replaces Mark McDowell.

Peter MacArthur becomes Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia. Mr. MacArthur replaces Donald Bobiash.

Douglas Scott Proudfoot becomes Representative to the Palestinian Authority. Mr. Proudfoot replaces Katherine Verrier-Fréchette.

Christopher Thornley becomes High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Permanent Observer to the Economic Community of West African States. Mr. Thornley replaces Perry Calderwood.
