Minister Dion to welcome Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh
News Release
October 25, 2016 - Ottawa, Ontario - Global Affairs Canada
The Honourable Stéphane Dion, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that he will meet with Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, in Ottawa on Tuesday, October 25, 2016.
The two ministers will review elements of the Canada-Bangladesh relationship and discuss continued collaboration on issues of mutual concern, including security, commerce and climate change.
Canada-Bangladesh trade totalled $2.4 billion last year, up by 25 percent since 2014. This makes Bangladesh Canada’s second-largest trading partner in South Asia. Based on the strength of their relationship, the two countries are well positioned to discuss a number of other issues, including development, security, human rights and the impact of water management on citizens.
This visit follows the participation of Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister Ali at the Fifth Replenishment Conference of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria in Montréal in September 2016.
