Calls for proposals for international internship opportunities for Canadian youth
Backgrounder
The International Youth Internship Program (IYIP) and the International Aboriginal Youth Internships (IAYI) initiative offer young Canadians a unique opportunity to acquire employment skills, gain international development work experience and be active global citizens.
The calls for proposals will fund initiatives that address the needs of local partner organizations in developing countries and contribute to the advancement of Canada’s international development objectives.
- The call for proposals for the IYIP is valued at up to $23.6 million over four years (2017 to 2021).
- The call for proposals for the IAYI is valued at up to $10.5 million over five years (2017 to 2022).
Once partner organizations have been selected and agreements signed under the two calls for proposals, a list of successful organizations and available internships will be posted on Calls for proposals. Young Canadians may then apply for internship opportunities.
Both calls for proposals are open to Canadian and Aboriginal organizations with a minimum of two years of experience working in international development. To be eligible, organizations responding to the calls for proposals must also partner with a local developing-country organization. For information on additional eligibility criteria and other details, please refer to Calls for proposals.
For the IAYI, stronger consideration will be given to proposals submitted by an Aboriginal organization or a consortium that includes at least one Aboriginal entity.
Proposals must align with at least one of Global Affairs Canada’s thematic priorities for international assistance.
Applicants must also integrate into their proposals the department’s crosscutting themes of environmental sustainability, gender equality and governance.
A preference may be given to proposals that support the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy’s focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics; skilled trades; green jobs and partnerships with the private sector.
Partners interested in future calls for proposals are encouraged to subscribe to the Calls for proposals RSS feed or visit email notices and select “Calls for proposals” to get up-to-date information about the programs from Global Affairs Canada.
