Canada to participate in Arctic Frontiers conference

Pamela Goldsmith-Jones, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, will visit Norway from January 23 to 25, 2017, to attend the Arctic Frontiers conference in Tromsø and a bilateral program in Oslo.

Arctic Frontiers is an annual international conference. First held in 2005, Arctic Frontiers brings together representatives of academia, government and businesses to discuss sustainable economic development in the Arctic. The theme of this year’s conference is White Space - Blue Future.

While in Tromsø, Parliamentary Secretary Goldsmith-Jones will also meet with Børge Brende, Norway’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, to discuss collaboration in the Arctic. She will also seize the opportunity to discuss Arctic issues with a group of young and emerging leaders from Arctic countries, including five young Canadians from Nunavut, Quebec and Saskatchewan.

In Oslo, Parliamentary Secretary Goldsmith-Jones will meet Marit Berger Røsland and Laila Bokhari, state secretaries in Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to discuss women, peace and security; the Arctic; and areas of continued cooperation between Canada and Norway. In addition, Parliamentary Secretary Goldsmith-Jones will meet with key Norwegian partners on the theme of women, peace and security. She will also participate in a round-table talk organized by the Research Council of Norway regarding recent developments in salmon aquaculture.
