Canada reaffirms support for Libya’s Government of National Accord

Global Affairs Canada today issued the following statement on the political situation in Libya:

“Canada believes that stability and durable peace will only be achieved in Libya through a political solution. We express our strong commitment to Libya’s Government of National Accord as the sole legitimate government and reiterate that the Libyan Political Agreement, facilitated by the United Nations, must continue to serve as the basis for Libyan-led mediation efforts.

“We urge all Libyans to work together towards achieving an inclusive political solution. We reiterate that there is no military solution to the ongoing situation in Libya, and we call for all parties to end hostilities.

“The international community must continue to support Libya and the United Nations as they work toward achieving lasting stability, peace and prosperity for the benefit of all Libyans.”
