• Canada and Chile celebrated 75 years of diplomatic relations in 2016 and marked the 20th anniversary of the Canada-Chile Free Trade Agreement in 2017.

• Canada values its close collaboration with Chile on trade, investment, defence, energy, mining and education, as well as science, technology and innovation.

• Merchandise trade between Canada and Chile has nearly quadrupled since the Canada-Chile Free Trade Agreement entered into force in 1997, reaching a value of $2.9 billion in 2017.

• Canada and Chile co-chair the Equal Rights Coalition, the first intergovernmental network formed to promote and protect the human rights of people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTQ2) around the world. They will also co-host the next LGBTQ2 Human Rights and Inclusive Development Conference this summer in Vancouver, British Columbia.
