Statement by Minister of Foreign Affairs on Boeing decision not to appeal U.S. ruling on Bombardier aircraft

Statement

March 23, 2018 - Ottawa, Ontario - Global Affairs Canada

The Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement on Boeing’s decision not to appeal the U.S. International Trade Commission’s (ITC’s) ruling on Bombardier C Series aircraft:

‎”Yesterday’s development is excellent news for the Canadian aerospace industry and reflects months of hard work and advocacy by Canada.

“This is good news for Canada’s innovative aerospace industry and the thousands of people who depend on well-paying aerospace jobs on both sides of the border. It also represents a positive development in the long-standing relationship between Canada and Boeing.

“The Government of Canada is pleased that Boeing has decided not to appeal the unanimous ruling by the ITC.

“Boeing’s decision means that no anti-dumping and countervailing duties can be applied to U.S. imports of C Series aircraft. ‎ ‎

“This ends litigation on the issue. The ITC’s January 26, 2018, ruling in favour of Bombardier confirmed what Canada has said all along: Boeing is not threatened with injury by imports of the C Series.

“Canada’s aerospace industry is a global leader, supporting more than 200,000 well-paying middle-class jobs across our country. We will always vigorously defend the Canadian aerospace industry and its workers against protectionist trade practices.”
