Statement
May 17 2018 – Ottawa, Ontario - Global Affairs Canada
The Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement:
“Canada is concerned by the ongoing civil unrest in Nicaragua.
“We welcome Nicaragua’s national dialogue, which started on May 16, and encourage all parties to support it. Safeguarding the rights and safety of all Nicaraguans during this dialogue will be key to its success.
“We look forward to a resolution of the current crisis in Nicaragua through peaceful dialogue. The human rights of the Nicaraguan people, including the right to assemble and protest peacefully, must be respected.”
