Statement on volcanic eruption in Guatemala

Global Affairs Canada today issued the following statement:
 
“Canada offers its deepest condolences to the people of Guatemala and those affected by Sunday's volcanic eruptions and ash. We are seriously concerned for the safety and well-being of all people affected by this natural disaster and send our thoughts to the region.

“In addition to monitoring Global Affairs Canada’s Travel Advice and Advisories, Canadian travellers should monitor news reports and follow the advice of local authorities.
 
“Canadians requiring emergency consular assistance in Guatemala should first call the Canadian embassy in Guatemala City and follow the embassy staff’s instructions. At any time, Canadians requiring emergency consular assistance can also contact the nearest Government of Canada office or Global Affairs Canada’s 24/7 Emergency Watch and Response Centre in Ottawa by calling +1 613 996 8885 collect or by sending an email message to sos@international.gc.ca.”
