Canada supports Women’s Voice and Leadership initiative in Ukraine

Canada announced up to $4.75 million over five years to a Women’s Voice and Leadership initiative in Ukraine.

Ukrainian women are represented in parliament, government, civil society and the media, but a united, concerted and consistent effort by women is required to achieve equal representation in the reform process and to change deep-rooted social norms and stereotypes. This initiative will advance gender equality in Ukraine by contributing to improving the:

• management and sustainability of local women’s rights organizations in Ukraine, particularly those representing vulnerable and marginalized women and girls;
• effectiveness of programming and advocacy by women’s rights organizations to advance gender equality in Ukraine; and
• effectiveness of national and sub-national women’s platforms, networks and alliances in bringing about gender-transformative policy changes and policy implementation in Ukraine.
