Statement by Foreign Affairs Minister on the situation in Haiti

The Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement:
“Canada is concerned with the ongoing violence and civil unrest in Haiti. We call for calm and respect for the rule of law by all, to ensure the safety and well-being of those affected by the violence.
“Canadians stand with the people of Haiti during this difficult time and we offer our deepest condolences to the victims of the violence.
“In addition to monitoring the government’s travel advice, Canadian travellers should monitor news reports and follow the advice of local authorities.
“At any time, Canadians requiring emergency consular assistance can contact the nearest Government of Canada office or Global Affairs Canada’s 24/7 Emergency Watch and Response Centre in Ottawa by calling +1 613 996 8885 collect or by sending an email message to firstname.lastname@example.org.”
