September 3, 2018 - Ottawa, Ontario - Global Affairs Canada

Global Affairs Canada today issued the following statement:

“Canada is concerned by the escalation of violence in and around Tripoli, Libya, including the use of indiscriminate shelling.

“We call on all parties to cease the hostilities, and to ensure the protection of civilians, especially children. We further call on all parties to allow civilians wanting to leave conflict areas to do so safely, and to allow safe access for medical personnel to those in need, in accordance with international humanitarian law.

“Canada reaffirms its strong backing for UN efforts in Libya. We call on all parties to work together towards establishing a stable, secure Libya in which all Libyans can live together in peace and prosperity.”
