Women’s Voice and Leadership
Implementing partner:
Plan International Canada
Funding:
$7 million (2018 to 2024)

This project aims to strengthen the ability of women’s organizations (WOs) to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in their communities. The project will support WOs to address their operational challenges, to enhance the performance of their programming and to increase the effectiveness of national women’s platforms. Forty-eight WOs will benefit from this initiative across four regions of Ethiopia. Training and support will also be provided to 72 young feminists.

Innovative Finance for Women Entrepreneurs
Implementing partner:
World Bank, Africa Gender Innovation Lab
Funding: $16 million (2019 to 2024)

This project aims to address the social, financial and business-management barriers that prevent women from achieving greater business success.

The project will provide 10,000 women entrepreneurs access to tailored, innovative financial services and technologies in the areas of credit, equity, savings and insurance. In addition, training, coaching and mentoring services will be provided to 15,000 more women entrepreneurs. By providing this support, the project will allow women entrepreneurs to expand their networks and connections to increase their profits and better support their families and communities. The project will also conduct impact evaluations to test the effectiveness of these innovative services for women in order to generate new evidence on how to close gender gaps in entrepreneurship for policy-makers, civil society, the private sector and other relevant stakeholders.
