Statement by Global Affairs Canada on devastation caused by wildfires in California

Global Affairs Canada today issued the following statement:

“On behalf of all Canadians, we extend our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of those who have lost their lives, and we wish a swift recovery to those injured in the ongoing wildfires in California, some of the most devastating in history. Our thoughts are with all those who have lost so much as a result of this terrible disaster.

“We continue to monitor the situation closely and stand ready to assist as required. 

“Canadian citizens in the areas affected should monitor our Travel Advice and Advisories and local media and follow the instructions of local authorities, including evacuation orders.

“We also urge Canadians in the area to contact their loved ones.

“Canadians requiring emergency consular assistance should contact the Consulate General of Canada in San Francisco, California, by calling 1-844-880-6519.

“Canadians can also contact Global Affairs Canada’s 24/7 Emergency Watch and Response Centre in Ottawa by calling toll-free 1-888-949-9993 or by sending an email to sos@international.gc.ca.”
