Canada to increase the deployment of Canadian experts abroad
Backgrounder
Global Affairs Canada is developing an initiative to increase its capacity to enable demand-driven deployments of Canadian expertise abroad in a wide range of domains as well as to enable knowledge sharing and learning.
In addition to enabling deployments of Canadian expertise, Global Affairs Canada could support technical-study visits to Canada from developing-country delegations as a means of increasing institutional performance and capacity in developing countries in terms of planning, developing and implementing national policies and programs. The department will also seize opportunities to demonstrate Canadian leadership by supporting initiatives that advance the priorities of the Feminist International Assistance Policy.
Increasing the provision of Canadian expertise and further projecting Canadian leadership globally will:
- align with the government’s commitments to enhance Canada’s leadership role in the world and to eradicate poverty and promote international peace and security globally
- advance and strengthen Canada’s position as a champion of human rights, women’s empowerment, gender equality, social inclusion and diversity around the world
- provide visibility and branding and draw on Canada’s greatest resource—its people
Global Affairs Canada will align technical assistance and capacity-building activities with the Feminist International Assistance Policy action areas, particularly those areas for which Canada has broad and recognized expertise and capacity and that are aligned with partner country needs and requests.
Requests for Canadian experts will be considered from countries eligible for official development assistance, particularly those in sub-Saharan Africa.
