Canada welcomes signing of interim constitutional agreement in Sudan

Global Affairs Canada today issued the following statement:

“This is an historic moment for the people of Sudan. Canada welcomes efforts by the Forces of Freedom and Change and the Transitional Military Council in Sudan that made this agreement possible.

“Canada calls on all Sudanese leaders to bring this same spirit of cooperation to the formation of the government, in accordance with the timelines set out in the agreement concerning the governing of Sudan during the transitional period.

“Canada stands ready to support the people of Sudan throughout this process, a process which holds the promise of a genuine civilian-led government which is inclusive of all people—including women—respects human rights and leads Sudan to a prosperous future.”
