Minister of Foreign Affairs to welcome U.S. Secretary of State to Canada

August 21, 2019 - The Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will welcome Mike Pompeo, United States Secretary of State, for an official visit to Ottawa, on Thursday, August 22, 2019.

Information for media

Media representatives wishing to cover those portions of the visit that are open to the media will be required to show their Canadian Parliamentary Press Gallery credentials. Those who are not members of the Parliamentary Press Gallery, or who were not previously accredited for this visit, should email pierre.cuguen@parl.gc.ca for accreditation.

All media wishing to cover the events following the Secretary of State’s arrival should arrive for a security sweep at the Salon Room, National Arts Centre, no later than 10:15 a.m. ET via the Rideau Canal entrance.

Event: Arrival of the Secretary of State in Ottawa.
Time: 8:30 a.m. ET
Location: Canada Reception Centre, Hangar 11, Ottawa MacDonald-Cartier International Airport
Notes: Open coverage. Media should arrive by 7:45 a.m. ET for a security sweep.

Event: The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Secretary of State will visit the National War Memorial. The Secretary of State will lay a wreath.

Notes: Photo opportunity only. Registered media will be escorted to the National War Memorial from the National Arts Centre.

Event: Bilateral meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Secretary of State.
