Readout: Minister Champagne meets with China’s foreign minister

The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, State Councillor and Minister of Foreign Affairs, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany. 

Minister Champagne raised the cases of Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor, which are a priority for the Government of Canada. 

The two ministers also discussed China’s response to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. Minister Champagne expressed Canada’s solidarity with the people in China affected by this emergency and pledged our continued assistance. He further acknowledged China’s assistance in repatriating more than 400 Canadians from Wuhan.
