Readout: Minister Ng speaks with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Denmark

News release

September 30, 2020 - Ottawa, Ontario - Global Affairs Canada

Yesterday, the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade spoke with Jeppe Kofod, Denmark’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The ministers talked about how open, rules-based international trade is essential for a strong and sustainable global economic recovery from COVID-19. They spoke about the importance of keeping supply chains open for essential medical goods, which is 1 of the 6 areas addressed in the recent Canada-led Ottawa Group Action Plan on COVID-19.

Minister Ng and Minister Kofod discussed opportunities for Canada and Denmark to support economic recovery for Canadians and Danes alike by increasing trade, investment, and cooperation in innovative sectors like clean-tech and renewable energy, advanced digital services, life sciences, and tele-medicine.

Ministers Ng and Minister Kofod agreed to continue working together in support of small and medium-sized businesses that spur investments and jobs in the green economy and leverage the Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement to grow Canada and Denmark’s strong and stable trading relationship in a way that benefits everyone.

The ministers ended the call by saying they hoped to see each other in person once it’s safe to do so.
