Canada’s support for civil society organizations in Belarus
Backgrounder
Chatham House ($550,000)
The project will help Belarusian civil society develop constructive knowledge-sharing and policy networks that will enable them to build a long-term strategy toward democracy, good governance and human rights protection for marginalized communities and minorities in Belarus.
European Endowment for Democracy (up to $900,000)
The project will provide demand-driven grant support to pro-democracy actors and activists in Belarus, with a particular focus on supporting the role of women in leading political, media and civic initiatives.
National Democratic Institute ($800,000)
The project will support the role of women in advancing democracy in Belarus, including through evidence-based public-awareness campaigns on gender bias, as well as tailored mentoring, leadership and networking support for current women Belarusian democratic leaders.
