Minister of Foreign Affairs speaks with Chairperson of African Union Commission

The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today spoke with His Excellency Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC).

During the call, Minister Joly expressed Canada’s deep concern about the rapidly deteriorating situation in Ethiopia, noting the violations of human rights and humanitarian law.

The Minister also reiterated that it is essential to work toward a political solution and an inclusive national dialogue to bring the conflict to a peaceful resolution.

Minister Joly and Chairperson Faki agreed to strengthen collaboration between Canada and the AUC on important shared interests, including peace and security, climate change, health and economic cooperation.
