Canada announces $19.5 million in funding for reconstruction efforts in Haiti

Backgrounder

Project: Support for the National Police Academy
Funding: $10 million
Description: This project aims to equip the police academy so that it can respond to urgent needs emerging in the context of multiple crises; this includes capacity building for executives in crisis management both in the capital and in the regions.

Project: Improving Integrated Health Services for Women, Teenage Girls and Children in Haiti
Funding: $1 million
Description: This increase to the budget for this project seeks to enable the UN Population Fund to cope with the new operational difficulties and emerging needs caused by the earthquake in August 2021.

Project: Post-disaster Rehabilitation
Funding: $4 million
Description: This initiative seeks to strengthen national systems in Haiti so that the country can better manage and respond to natural disasters. It supports the UN Development Programme’s current recovery and rebuilding efforts in a number of the most vulnerable communities.

Project: Canada’s Contribution to the 2022 Humanitarian Consolidated Appeal for Haiti  
Funding: $4.5 million
Description: This contribution includes funding for humanitarian partners in Haiti, including $3,250,000 for the World Food Programme to support emergency food assistance and humanitarian air logistics, $250,000 to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, $500,000 to UNICEF to provide protection for and assistance to children and $500,000 to the International Committee of the Red Cross to provide protection for and assistance to the civilian population.
