Today, the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development, spoke with His Excellency Mr. Piyush Goyal, India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs and Food and Public Distribution and Textiles.

Minister Ng started the call by expressing Canada’s solidarity with the Ukrainian community in Canada and abroad.

Minister Ng and Minister Goyal discussed advancing bilateral trade between the two countries and welcomed further engagement on negotiations toward a Canada-India comprehensive economic partnership agreement and a Canada-India foreign investment promotion and protection agreement.

Minister Ng and Minister Goyal looked forward to their participation in the first Canadian Women-only Virtual Business Mission to India on March 7th, organized by the Asia-Pacific Foundation Canada, in partnership with the Canada-India Business Council, and supported through the Government of Canada’s Women Entrepreneurship Strategy (WES).

Building on their meetings earlier this year and throughout the previous year, the Ministers expressed their enthusiasm for their ongoing work to strengthen already deep ties between Canada and India, and look forward to engaging in a Ministerial trade and investment dialogue in the coming months.

As Canada deepens its engagement across the Indo-Pacific, collaboration with India, a key trade and economic partner for Canada in the region, continues to be crucial.
